Discoveries in Safety™
About us
UL Research Institutes is a leading independent safety science organization with global reach. Dedicated to exploring vital questions related to public safety, we sense and act on risks to humanity and our planet. Since 1894, our trusted research has engaged the ingenuity of top minds across scientific disciplines to engineer a safer and more sustainable world. Science builds the knowledge required to mitigate increasingly urgent safety problems like environmental and chemical pollution and artificial intelligence inequities — and our rigorous, objective investigations uncover and develop that knowledge. In collaboration with a global network of scientists and safety professionals, we define the safe and sustainable use of things ranging from legacy materials and devices to new and emerging technologies. Our discoveries support the development of practical standards and policies by UL Standards & Engagement. Together, we are advancing safety science for the greater good. Discover more at UL.org.

Do you know a teacher who wants to make a difference in their students' lives but needs more support? Encourage them to apply for the Xplorlabs Educator Fellowship and they'll get the tools they need to empower learners to investigate meaningful problems, imagine a safer world, and turn multidisciplinary knowledge into action. #Xplorlabs #EducationMatters #STEMeducators #TeacherLife
"Before this, I had no idea how to make any reactions with batteries or anything. Now I can ask questions about what chemicals to use and what causes the best reactions ... I actually know what I am doing ... and what people are talking about when it comes to all this.” Those are the words of Brainerd High School senior — and now aspiring electrician — Adrian Para after taking part in our Science of Thermal Runaway pathway. Adrian's teacher, Ethan Schubert, is one of our Xplorlabs Educator Fellows. Since bringing #Xplorlabs into his chemistry classes and connecting them with engineering faculty and undergraduate students from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, he's seen his students thrive. Like Adrian, students have begun pursuing jobs in new fields and two who weren't planning to attend college will be studying engineering and mechatronics at local universities. Thank you to WDEF-TV in Chattanooga for sharing this story showing what Xplorlabs is all about. If you're a secondary or informal educator interested in bringing real-world safety science phenomena into your classroom, please apply for our 2024 educator fellowship: https://lnkd.in/gmEr9TvN

Our approach to research is to make the world a safer place for all. And we believe that collaboration and sharing of discoveries in safety leads to the best results — such as standards and boundaries that guide people and industries across the spectrum of human activity. Digital safety and #AI present risks to us all, and our Digital Safety Research Institute (DSRI) is inviting us all to help study those risks. Please consider joining this study and help us make the world a safer place. ✔ Click on the DSRI Showcase page ✔ Scroll to the bottom ✔ Select "Get Started" #DigitalSafety #ResearchMatters
Join our AI study and help make the world a safer place. We are asking professionals from all industries to spend a few hours with an unreleased chatbot in mid-2024. We will ask you to use our test model and report where it either succeeds or falls short in helping with your work. By sharing where the model gives misleading or dangerous responses in your area of expertise, you will help directly inform the public where #AI is not ready for real world deployment. Click on the "Get Started" button at the bottom of our LinkedIn page to sign up. #DSRI #DigitalSafety #ResearchMatters
